Whatever happens don't let go of my hand
Everything will be alright he assures her
But she doesn't hear a word that he says
Preoccupied she's afraid
Afraid that what they're doing is not right
He doesn't know what to say so he prays
The engine roars, the midnight sky turns red
Too many unanswered questions in her head
He steps on the gas, racing 'gainst the dawn
Knowing that the life they knew is gone
"Look at me," he whispers through the storm
"We took the leap, there’s no place left to conform"
She glances back at the shadows in the glass
Wondering how long a borrowed dream can last
Static on the radio, static in her mind
Leaving all the sirens and the past behind
His hand is warm, but her fingers remain cold
Trapped in a story that shouldn't have been told
She closes her eyes, counting every mile
Trading safety for a fleeting smile
God only knows if they'll survive the night
When love itself feels like a losing fight
